The Electric Island is an airbnb in the heart of the dynamic De Waterkant area in Cape Town. 200 square meters over two floors, with an eclectic identity and designed for maximum comfort and minimum effort. This is not an ordinary holiday experience, but who wants to be ordinary – especially when you’re on the Electric Island.

Historic, modern, decadent, multicultural, African. Let us show you around upstairs with the Island kitchen, pantry, honesty bar, master bedroom, library and lounge.

Cook simple breakfasts in THE ISLAND KITCHEN ( fresh bagels can be purchased around the corner at
Origin coffee)
and learn barista arts from our Malawian barista Joseph (bookings essential). Check out the PANTRY and buy water, wine or other wonderful edibles. Order in uber eats and dine under candlelight in the DINING ROOM. Mix yourself a Negroni, an Old Fashioned or a
Botanical Bomb
x Inverroche G&T from the HONESTY BAR or try David Copes Alphabetical Red or White Wine, specifically selected for island embibing (leave the cash under the tortoise shell on check out.)

Take a seat in the LOUNGE, connect to blue tooth and tune in. (We’ll send you our playlists compiled by our creative tribe.) Turn up the volume or keep it mellow. On the island, you can do as you damn well please. Write the first page of that book thats lurking inside you at the WRITING DESK. Pour through Neil Roake’s collection of art and design books in THE LIBRARY or try complete a piece of the FUCK puzzle. Throw your weary bones down onto the King size bed with pure linen duvets and ergonomic pillows in THE MASTER BEDROOM.

Enter through the hall of mirrors. It’s strange. It’s magical. Not going to lie, It’s a narcissits dream. Get that selfie finger ready.

You walk straight into the ENTRANCE LOBBY which is a perfect place to sit and wait for friend before heading out into the De Waterkant night. Shit, shower and shave downstairs in the WASHROOM annex. If the white curtains are drawn, that means someone’s in there. Discover the latest installation of art along the MIRRORED PATHWAY or grab a book and lie down on the stairs. Later you may want to lower the lights and have a personal mini disco.

At the back of the ground floor are two SLEEPING PODS, each with Queen sized beds (each sleep 2 or 1 depending how close you are 🙂 The rooms are simple and comfortable, full of domestic touches, more like a friend’s bedroom than a cookie-cutter hotel room. Each is a collection of objects, souvenirs, music, books and second-hand furniture, with a personality all of their own.
